Generally, those who do coffin carving often make reliefs on curved boards, such as dragon and phoenix pictures, eight immortals pictures, blessings and longevity pictures, etc. The engraving of a woodworking engraving machine on a curved surface is called projection engraving.
This engraving method is to project the path onto the curved surface according to the vertical direction of the processing surface, and it is mainly used for engraving or marking lines on the curved surface, or engraving some patterns. It's not the same as wrap sculpting, which projects a path onto a surface with a constant-length principle.
When the projected surface is flat, there is not much difference between projection sculpting and wrap sculpting. However, when the projected surface is steep, projected sculpting will cause severe distortion of the path where the surface is steep. Wrap engraving does not, it is like putting the path on a piece of rubber film, and then rolling the rubber film on the surface to be wrapped. If the surface cannot be unwrapped, the wrapping path will also be deformed. Path distortion can be reduced by adjusting the Wrap Center and Wrap Orientation.
Like a curved board, we have to measure the curvature of the board, and then make the board in the form of a model. After the model comes out, we can paste the relief file on it along the arc of Shoumu in two ways. If you use Jingdiao software, you can directly project the relief onto the radian model; if you use Artcam software, you can directly paste the relief onto the surface of the model file. The editing of the tool path is the same as that of the ordinary flat plate, but it is best to choose an engraving tool with a relatively long handle for this kind of arc engraving. If the tool is too short, it is easy for the spindle clamp of the engraving machine to touch the material.
